Clay became the 21st rookie to throw a no-hitter, the third pitcher since 1900 to throw a no-hitter in his first or second major-league start and the first-ever Red Sox rookie to throw a no-hitter. Just two years after facing cancer, Jon Lester threw the
18th no-hitter in Red Sox history by beating the Kansas City Royals 7-0 at Fenway Park.
